See, White People Drive Like This...

baggervance

Do you think black people are different than white people? If so, great news: Will Smith is adapting Hitch for television. Finally, an entire show devoted to a hip, sexually enlightened black man teaching white pushovers how to score chicks. No more trying to decipher rap videos, nerds.

Sorry, I loved that movie. Kevin James trying to dance may be stereotypical, but it was damn funny. I am not afraid to laugh at my fellow Caucasians. I also don't think that Kevin James represents me as a person, so therefore I can laugh as loudly as anyone not of a ghostly pallor.

Kitch: isn't the point of Bagger Vance that Bagger or Vance, as a black man, was not allowed to golf because he was black - but he was the best golfer evar. So then he helped Bagger or Vance, a white kid, play golf. Lessons on the meaning of life ensued. Just like Hitch teaches white dudes to golf (if golf = score with chicks) and life.

I haven't seen either movie. I just want to state that up front because I have a bad feeling that my full admission to possibly not getting the joke may very well prompt a "duh" toned response.

There may very well be a great joke as to why a picture from Bagger Vance was used rather than one from Hitch.

I have no idea, Lisa. *lol* But in that case, I don't get why a picture from Hitch wouldn't be used to get the same point across.

I've seen Hitch, but not Bagger, only because I think golf and golf movies suck, unless they are Caddyshack, but not the sequel.

kitchy, i think that bagger vance movie was a pinnacle of black packaged for white in the world of movies that will smith has been in (god, there are plenty though). thats just a guess though.

I think Bagger Vance is the same movie as Hitch, except with Hitch hilarity ensues. (I've never seen BV either, so I could be totally wrong here).

for those who haven't seen it, bagger vance is one of those movies where will plays a "magical negro", who spends his time helping some honky (matt damon) overcome his ridiculous problems despite the fact that it's the 1930's and black people need him just a bit more since they're being lynched, hung, tortured and oppressed. in matt's case i think he forgot why he loved the game of golf or something earthshaking like that. will also talks throughout the movie in one of those "yessiree boss!" voices. perhaps y'all can see how this kinda movie could be a little annoying to those of us who have some black in us like cord and I and eviltwin (ok, i made up the eviltwin part…maybe.)

Well, james, I think I may be a little black by injection, does that count? My hubbie is quite literally a Heinz 57 mix.

Hmm. I hated both movies equally. I never realized they were connected.

I don't know if this counts, but my man is mexican. After reading the O'Reilly post, it just may. There would appear to be many of the same stereotypes about blacks in NY as there are about mexicans here in TX.

I saw Mexico got it's first, Taco Bell. It left me with so many questions. Will they change their motto. I don't know how well, "Run for the border", will work.
