Obviously

File this under We Could Have Told You That a Long Time Ago: New reports are claiming that Amy Winehouse may be suffering from brain damage — more specifically, schizophrenia — thanks to her multiple drug overdoses, which have included two in the past year or so. In August 2007, Amy binged on crystal meth, heroin and cocaine; this past July she was hospitalized after a "36-hour marijuana marathon that left her in convulsions." Wait, the same incident that her father claimed was caused by a friend spiking Amy's drink with ecstasy? Interesting.

'[Her father's] "explanation" for Amy's hospital dash in July was just simply untrue,' [a] Winehouse pal said. 'She had smoked an inhuman amount of hash which resulted in acute cannabis poisoning. You have to take a s***load of pot to to suffer that severe reaction. It is thought she had been smoking it for 36 hours.'

So this means … Mitch Winehouse lied? This is devastating.

No. 1 Chelsea says:

She'd have to ingest like 7-8 pounds of really strong hash in order to have any type of overdose. If someone is making up drug stories about this girl, they ought to use a real drug, not a plant.

From the DEA: In over 5,000 years of marijuana usage by humans– "Nearly all medicines have toxic, potentially lethal effects. But marijuana is not such a substance. There is no record in the extensive medical literature describing a proven, documented cannabis-induced fatality"

Does it have to be one or the other? I'm inclined to believe that somewhere in the 36-hour hash binge, someone spiked her drink. Probably herself.

I'm just going to say it. I'm prepared for the fallout…
Would she just die already, so that she can go back to being an iconic musical prodigy that people worship? Jesus, Amy, time's a wastin', and it's not like you're going to make a comeback now that you're missing all your brain cells.

I said it.

Supposedly he's still wandering around and pretty much homeless. He was crazy before he got into the drugs, but the acid really just sent him over the edge. He's never quite recovered. I read an article in Guitar magazine about him. He occasionally pops into his old haunts, but really, he's gone in the head.

This is legit. I am an expert on this subject. Marijuana is very different from hash, hash is extremely potent and it contains opium. I called bullshit when I heard it was from "pot" on the radio but that hash will get you, and Amy doesn't look like the kinda girl who knows when enough is enough.

Blah, that is astonishing. Isn't he, like, eleventy-eight years old now? Maybe that's the undiscovered secret about acid… it keeps you alive way, way too long.

As if all the crack and meth she has smoked, wouldn't be the cause of her brain damage.
If she just concentrated on weed and hash, she would forget about crack.

Someone needs to give this chick to Dr. Drew to lock up in a rehab facility. I know you can't make a drug addict stop if they don't want to, but at some point someone in her life needs to step up and try and help her before she dies. How she hasn't killed herself yet is amazing.

Bullshit on the OD'ing of the weed, Amy's poppop spilled the beans, and the PR pimps told him to STFU. This girl is going to wind up like Brian Wilson, brilliant but neurologically damaged.

No. 20 Wendy says:

Syd Barrett died last year of pancreatic cancer. He also had diabetes type II when he was alive. He was not homeless after Pink Floyd. In fact he left 1.25 million English pounds to his brothers and sister after he died. He lived with his mother and became a recluse for 30 years and avid gardener until his death. Yeah he was crazy and his behavior became increasingly unpredictable, partly as a consequence of frequent experimentation with psychedelic drugs such as LSD.
