I had a very pleasant voting experience this morning here in lovely Arlington, VA. I got in line about 5:45 (the line was already about 2 city blocks long). A nice young guy who was a McCain supporter named Matt, oddly enough, and a mid-20s girl named Melissa (who never said who she was voting for), and I proceeded to chat amicably while we waited in line. The line moved quickly, the staff was well-organized, and moods were generally pretty good (I didn't hear anyone bitching about having to wait). The hour and a half in line passed rather quickly, and I can now say that I've done my civic duty.

On the radio into work, I just heard them say that there aren't many lines right now, so if you are in the DC metro area, now may be the time to go vote if you haven't already!

I know it is. But the reports are that the polling is badly skewed because people were afraid to say they arent voting for Obama.

there has been all kind of articles out there stating some people being polled would be nervous to say they werent voting for Obama for fear of being labled racist.

Also, hispanics are the most underpolled ethnic group in the US and most of their vote is going toward McCain.

Also i cling to every thread thrown to me about the possibility of Americans not being able to move past their racial fears and post it hoping that people will hunt down my "polls".

I can say from personal experience that every single one of my latino friends is voting for Obama. EVERY SINGLE ONE. And I have a LOT of latino friends.

I voted about an hour ago. No line whatsoever, this is in a semi-rural county in Ohio about 60 miles south of Cleveland. I was a wee disappointed, I hoped for a long line that would merit a visit from the silver fox at CNN. I even put makeup on this morning. I was ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille. Dammit.

Aww, I had long lines. But everyone was friendly and there was a family with adorable daughters in line behind me. And there were NO McCain people outside the polls, only Obama.

That being said, my Mom and I talked about it, and we're moving to Ireland and opening a pub if McCain wins. And maybe Obama too, since the plan sounded really lovely when we developed it.

I just waited in line about an hour. But, the lines were picking up as I was leaving.
